SANDRA KJELLMAN

EXHIBITED AT STOCKHOLM FURNITURE FAIR 2018

SANCTUARY

A stool celebrating the 100th anniversary of the swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman.

Sanctuary was my contribution to the project Bergman Stools 2018. It involved the entire process from idea to building stage, surface treatment and exhibition design.

Exhibited at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2018.

TIME FRAME: TWO MONTHS

DURING PDFD AT JÖNKÖPING UNIVERSITY

DESIGN

DEFINITION

The stool is inspired by the architecture from one of Ingmar Bergman’s houses called Hammar at Fårö in Gotland, Sweden. Fårö acted as a sanctuary to the filmmaker, hence the name of the stool.

The stool is made out of solid pinewood and MDF and painted with oil stain and black paint. It does not have any visable joints nor does it involve any metal components.

Due to the height of the stool, the lower part acts as a footrest.
